The Primary Care & Hope Clinic offers nutritional counseling to assist patients with disease prevention and management. Nutrition counseling is an ongoing process where a registered dietitian works with an individual to assess their dietary intake to help identify areas where change is needed.
Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects the body’s ability to properly use insulin. Uncontrolled diabetes can lead to high blood glucose, heat disease, vision impairment, and other health complications.
The Primary Care & Hope Clinic offers Diabetic counseling to treat diabetes with medical nutrition therapy. Patients receiving diabetic counseling will receive individualized care while also learning a variety of nutritional approaches to help manage their diabetes.
How can a Registered Dietitian (RD) help you?
1. If you have diabetes, heart problems or high blood pressure
An RD can help you safely change your eating plan without giving up taste or nutrition
2. If you have digestive problems.
An RD will work with your provider to help fine-tune your diet so you are not aggravating your condition.
3. If you’re pregnant or trying to get pregnant.
An RD can help make sure you get important nutrients, such as folate.
4. If you need to gain or lose weight.
An RD can suggest additional calorie sources for healthy weight gain or a controlled-calorie eating plan, plus regular physical activity for weight loss, while still eating your favorite foods.
5. If you want to eat smarter.
An RD can help you sort through misinformation. Learn how to read food labels, discover how healthy cooking is not expensive, learn healthy tips for eating out and how to resist temptations at work.
